Introducing the 1st Down Award

We’re excited to launch a new recognition program for our players: the 1st Down Award. After each game, coaches will present this honor not as an MVP, but as a Most Valuable Teammate award.

This award celebrates the player who best represents what it means to be a great teammate. Coaches will be looking for players who:

Puts the team first, Cheers on and encourages their teammates, shows sportsmanship in every situation, steps up to help others, Leads with a positive and supportive attitude

It’s not about who scores the most points, it’s about recognizing the heart, character, and spirit of those who lift the whole team up.

Rule Spotlight

Rushing the Passer

• Up to two (2) players may rush; however, they must identify themselves by raising their hand and leaving their hand up until the ball is snapped.

 • Players that rush the passer must be 7 yards from the line of scrimmage when the ball is snapped. If the designated rusher or rushers choose to rush, the rush must occur immediately when the ball is snapped.

 • Before each play, an official will mark off 7 yards from the LOS.

 • The rusher has a clear path to the passer, and any interference by the offense to impede his or her path will be considered impeding.

 • If the rusher leaves the rush line early (breaks the 7-yard mark), they may NOT reset and are ineligible to rush the passer unless a handoff or pitch backwards is made behind the line of scrimmage.

• Players not rushing the passer may defend on the line of scrimmage but  may not enter the backfield unless the ball is handed off or pitched backwards behind the line of scrimmage.

 • Players rushing the passer may attempt to block the pass; however, NO contact may be made with the QB unless ruled incidental by the Officials.

This play is a designed run to attack the middle of the field for a few easy yards.

QB

You turn and pivot to the right with the ball out in two hands • watch the ball into Z’s belly

Z

Run just to the right of Q, ready for the handoff.  Do not reach for the ball; wait until it touches your stomach, clamp down, and run hard toward the open space

X &  Y

Drive hard at the defenders outside shoulder and then down the sideline • your goal is to get the defender to turn their back to the play

Center

Run as fast as you can. Your goal is to get the middle defender to step away from the play

Brandon Walker

Brandon is a newer official who’s already earned many compliments for his professionalism and steady presence on the field. His positive attitude has made a great impression on players, coaches, and field monitors. We’re excited to see his continued growth and future impact in the game.
